The
consequences of picking the wrong tool can
be quite severe: At worst, the project will
be a complete failure, with all the software
and services costs written off, and the
loss of the hoped-for business benefits.
The total losses could be in the
millions . More typically, some
vestige of the project will survive, so
that the culprits can claim it as a "success"
and quietly move on to other things. But
the scope will be reduced, the deployment
minimal and the benefits illusory .
Such projects are all too common, and are
in some ways worse than the first category,
because there is less incentive to replace
the failed system, and so the potential
business benefits are lost for even longer.
Some projects have grand ambitions for enterprise
deployment, but never make it beyond
the first departmental application .

by lean, adaptive, and ethical processes operated
by front-line workers.

AMR Research, nearly 50 percent of respondents
said they will (or plan to) roll out dashboards
in the coming months.
