| Gartner Updates CPM Magic
Quadrant |
 |
Gartner has just released an updated Corporate
Performance Management Magic Quadrant. As in the initial
version a year ago: no vendor is in the leadership
quadrant. This indicates a market that is still maturing
and a need for purchasers to perform extensive due diligence
during the vendor selection process. A number of vendors are
in the visionary quadrant indicating they understand where
the market is going and are preparing for it. These
companies include: Cognos, Geac (Comshare), Hyperion, and
Longview. The full report is available for purchase
directly from Gartner.

| Why Budgeting Kills Your Company |
 |
The average billion-dollar company spends as many as
25,000 person-days per year putting together the budget. If
this all paid off in shareholder return, that would be fine.

| Spotlight on Dashboards |
 |
| After budgeting and planning, metrics dashboards are
the second most sought after component of BPM. While the
major vendors (Hyperion, Cognos, others) offer
dashboard/metrics builders as part of their suites, there
are a growing number of vendors focused on just dashboards
(a reborn Pilot, Corvu, Conquest Systems, Active
Strategies, , others). If you already have solid
planning and consolidation systems, or simply don't have the
funding for a full-blown BPM system right now, a new
dashboard can give you many of the benefits of BPM at a
fraction of the cost.
